When a local hobby shop sponsored a contest, Jim entered his scale '57 Chevy model. Winning that contest sparked an appeal that remains visible in his model work today. Drawn to advertising during college, he changed majors (from architecture) and graduated, cum laude, from the College of Journalism at the University of Florida. During his junior and senior years there, he prepared editorial art for the "Communigator".

From Gainesville, Jim went on to post-graduate work at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Upon graduation, he joined a small advertising design firm in southern California serving Continental Airlines. Starting out in the graphics department, he transferred to the sales and service side within a year. Since that day in 1978, he has been serving advertisers with freelance art.

Jim's animal model work was noticed by the American Humane Association and brought up in a production meeting with Bruce Hendricks who was a production manager over on the Zorro lot at Disney. Hendricks had animal special effects scheduled for six different shows for the Disney Sunday Movie Series on ABC.

Thus began the movie work and the beginning of Animal Makers, back in 1979. Jim went on to serve Hendricks even until today's new "Pirates of the Caribbean (imdb)" movies. That's a 27 year history of successful service to one client!
